The Future of Solar - a Healthier Planet

The future of solar energy, particularly in Australia with our abundance of sunshine, is an exciting one.

It is also of vital significance. The reduction of carbon emissions to ease global warming is crucial for the future health of our planet and everyday life.

Clean and renewable energy sources such as solar are being increasingly embraced at all levels of society; global, national, community and individual. Their adoption is more than a green alternative - it makes best economic sense.

The uptake of solar energy in Australia, with the assistance of Government Rebates and Solar Feed-In Tariff Rewards, has experienced a large surge in recent years. With the Carbon Emissions Trading Scheme due to start in Australia by 2012, together with the anticipated introduction prior to then of Solar Feed-In rewards on a national level, that uptake is poised to accelerate even more substantially.

Large solar farms are also likely to form a significant part of our energy future. The largest solar farm yet built will soon be going into full production in Portugal. High on the Alantejo Plain, near the small town of Mouro in Eastern Portugal, it will be twice as large as any project of its kind in the world. It is expected to supply 45megaWatts of electricity every year, enough to power 30,000 homes.

Even this will be eventually dwarfed by a solar farm planned for San Luis Obispo County in central California, which is expected to have a gargantuan capacity of 500megaWatts. There is every potential for Australia, with our vast sun-soaked lands, to also be a world leader in solar farming on this scale.

So whether you are the owner of a home, business, farm, community or industrial property, the future of solar is bright, and now is a perfect time to make a sound and rewarding investment in your economic and environmental future.
