Solar Choice was initially engaged by a strata committee member in December 2023 to complete an EV Charging feasibility study for the building which clearly set out the different options for electrifying the garages and associated costs.
The study was supported by some initial works the buildings electrician had completed installing a data logger recording the usage on the incoming mains. Solar Choice was able to identify that the residents could install 15 Amp power sockets in each parking bay without risking overloading the incoming mains, even a higher take up of Electric Vehicles. Each power socket could be connected to each owners individual meter avoiding the need for any additional software billing solution.

This presented a cost effective solution to future proofing the building for EVs and was the committee’s preference when balanced against alternative options.
Solar Choice helped the owners access a competitive quote from a trusted and reliable electrical contractor which the building ultimately approved. The motion passed with 100% of owners in favour of the project. This vote outcome was supported by a detailed explanation of the project including the benefits to all owners prepared and distributed by one of the committee members. Many owners liked the idea of having a power socket in their parking bay for other uses besides EV charging.
The project took approximately 2 weeks onsite to install and was completed mid 2024.
