It works nearly flawlessly, which is the main thing. Sometimes in summer it trips at peak generation times.

Battery has been excellent. Installation was smooth, the app is straightforward and informative, and we've avoided about 30hrs of blackouts in total. Would love more storage (2 adults + 2 kids + EV), but nonetheless we're only at around 9% grid energy usage over nearly two years.

Ongoing support is not so great, Careful to test all monitoring system

As we ordered 10KW system and initial they provided 8KW inverter. Like it was found out and installer replace the correct 10KW inverter. However, the safety switch of the inverter triggerred in summer of 2022, and 2023. Luck it was noticed by me via check the APP within 24 hours. And notify to SolarEdge support. in 2022, SolarEdge support thought it was due to Invertor country code change settings. They claim fixed remotely. While it happens again in 2023, SolarEdge support went to deep check and finally find the installer installed wrong 40A safety switch that is lower than solar system can produce in peak time. So I have to contact Soltek to correct this. The Technician they sent is good. He replaced the safety switch and the cable as well as both are below spec due to initial installation is for 8KW, not 10KW. It is a bit time waiting for Soltek to send technician as they thought it may charge me for the fix. And finally realised that it is due to their initial error. Another important matter to bring in attention is when safety switch triggerred and switch off solar system in 2022. No of any warning message received from Soltek (promissed by sales) or SolarEdge. I have talk to SolarEdge support three times. And manually turn off invertor for a few hours to confirm, I do getting warning message from SolarEdge. Beware of the monitorring system of Solar system settings. You need test and confirm it does work. Otherwise, you may realise the system is down only by hitting very high electricity bill.

SolarEdge do have support centre to contact. But you need have some knowledge to talk to them. And sometimes, they told you they applied fix, but actually it doesn't.

Battery - Tesla

Battery works great to save energy bill. And fit our purpose that our house won't lost power even grid is offline. It happened a few time in my area. I didn't know that Tesla offer VPP untill 2024. So I lost extra Tesla warranty as I was not sign up when newly installed. And after I sign up, I can't change any Battery settings. So for planned power interruption, you can only hope there is very sunny day to allow battery and solar system feed my house power. Also, I noticed Tesla VPP control doing funny things. VPP using different timing fee struction. Only give FIT between 2pm-8pm each day. And peak grid fee is very high. However, in the morning, when battery is only 21%, and solar produce the power, it doesn't charge battery and send power back to grid (free). And only charge battery from 12:30pm to 1pm (Calculate during full sun, it is enough time to fully charge the battery before 2pm) . As weather never always has full sunlight between 12-2pm. So In the end, my system sending solar power to grid for free before 12pm and then, if sunlight is not enought, it draw grid power to charge battery before 2pm. End up each day, I pay extra upto 8KW shoulder period grid power while sending more than 10KW free to grid in the morning. I explain the situation to Tesla support. The answer is that is VPP control does. You have to bear this.

It was quoted for both 8Kw and 10Kw solar system. And in the end I selected 10kw with Tesla battery. The installation seems smooth. However, after a week, I noticed that the invertor is 8Kw not 10Kw. So they have to come back to swap to correct one. I had intermittently invertor overload and protect switch shut down the system issue happened in 2022 summer and 2023 summer. Finally I was told the initial installation used wrong circuit break switch that need to be replaced. And a few months ago, SolarEdge finally get this solved. The onsite technician from Soltek is good, he replaced the wiring that is below the spec as well. Since I owned the system for 2.5 years, I realised that the sales commitment is a bit different with actual jobs taken. eg, the monitoring system is not turned on at Solaredge as well as soltek, that supposed to be.

the inverter works good. Its wireless connection sometimes stuck and hard to reconfig. It happened once per year. Lucky I am IT guy and know how to do so by myself. SolarEdge has good monitoring system. However, you as an end user, must call them to enable it and provide email address. Also, do a test (cut wireless connection) to ensure they do setup correctly. in my situation, SolarEdge said that they didn't receive any monitoring setting request from Soltek (my installer). However, they told me that it was setup correctly and in fact it is not. It took me a few calls to get all setup.

Battery - Tesla

good battery system. And with Tesla battery and inverter, Tesla inverter became the main inverter. Tesla app looks good.

Damien and co were easy to deal with, gave us a comprehensive quote with different options. We went with LG panels and Fronius inverter, 5 years in December still going strong. Very Happy
