Solar and EV Charging Installation for Apartment Building in Brisbane

The body corporate at Aris Apartments in Newstead, Brisbane engaged Solar Choice to complete a solar and EV charging feasibility study for their 55 unit residential apartment building.

The feasibility study examined all the options for installing solar and future-proofing the building for the transition to Electric Vehicles, although only a couple of owners had EVs at the time.

The body corporate decided to proceed with a common area solar system of 40kW which will provide over $12,000 of electricity bill savings a year, and this will increase as EV Charging consumption increases.

To prepare the building for EVs, the owners installed an EV Charging Backbone which will enable any owner to simply and cheaply connect up a level 2 Smappee EV charger when they wish. The backbone is installed on the common area meter and includes a load management system and billing software to ensure that the appropriate users are paying for their own EV charging electricity usage.

Overall these solutions are expected to increase the property value of each apartment along with the potential rental yield.
