SolarEdge Company History
SolarEdge were founded in 2006 and are best known for their DC optimised solar inverter solution. SolarEdge has transitioned into a comprehensive provider within the solar industry, offering a full set of products across the globe. Their range now includes solar panels, solar inverters, solar batteries, DC optimisers, and EV chargers.
SolarEdge was an initial collaborator with Tesla in the launch of their residential battery systems. Nowadays SolarEdge produce their own batteries in their manufacturing plant in Hungary. The company is headquartered in Israel but do have a local office in Melbourne to support Australian customers.
In March 2015, SolarEdge had an initial public offering on the NASDAQ with 7,000,000 shares of its common stock at a price to the public of $18.00 per share, raising US$126 million. They currently have a market capitalisation of around US$1 billion.

SolarEdge Battery Range and Options

SolarEdge have more or less a one sized fits all solution with only one home battery offered to the Australian market. This model is named the BAT-10K1P and features 9.7 kWh of usable capacity. This is a popular system size, but it can be stacked together with 2 more batteries on the same inverter.
The battery has a 100% depth of discharge and, similar to the Tesla Powerwall, uses Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt chemistry which is more popularly known as Lithium-Ion. However it looks like SolarEdge will be moving away from this chemistry for future batteries.
The battery DC-coupled and must be paired with select SolarEdge Genesis, SolarEdge Home Hub or SolarEdge residential 3-phase inverters. The battery can be discharged at 7.5kW for up to 10 seconds which provides the ability for bigger appliances to start up when the battery is providing back up power.
The battery can be paired with a separate piece of hardware to enable back-up power, which will allow homeowners to keep the power running during an outage. This comes at an extra cost and is only available when paired with their single-phase inverters.
New SolarEdge Battery On The Way!
SolarEdge have recently announced they have a new battery solution being released in late 2025. This solution is expected to be modular in battery modules of 4.4kWh. The battery will have a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry which is more popular due to its stability and cost-effectiveness.
This battery will be an ‘all-in-one’, AC-connected solution, which eliminates the need to have a compatible SolarEdge inverter as one will be built into the battery solution.

SolarEdge App and Monitoring Platform
One of the main points of difference for SolarEdge’s home battery solution is the monitoring solution. SolarEdge inverters already offer advantages over most inverters through the inclusion of DC optimisers, and the SolarEdge home battery can be integrated into the same application providing one source of truth for homeowners.
Customers can later choose to add a SolarEdge EV Charger which can integrate into the same ecosystem.
Australian Warranty Terms for SolarEdge Batteries
SolarEdge provides a 10-year product warranty for its Home Battery which covers workmanship and manufacturing defects. This aligns with almost all residential batteries available in Australia. The warranty begins from the earlier of the battery’s installation date or 12 months from the date it is shipped from the factory.
SolarEdge also offer a performance warranty which states the battery will retain at least 70% of its energy capacity by the end of warranty period with unlimited cycles as long as the battery is only used for standard solar self-consumption. While this is attractive, more Australian’s are now looking for more ways to make money from their battery including Virtual Power Plants. In these circumstances the battery will have a throughput warranty of around 2.8MWh per usable kWh, which is lower than most of the other brands except Tesla who have a similar warranty offer.
Key exclusion from SolarEdge’s warranty:
Warranty Exclusion Wording | Implication |
“The SolarEdge Home Battery is to be installed in a location where the ambient temperature falls between 0°C to +40°C for no less than 95% of the warranty period” | SolarEdge battery may not be warranted in cold areas like ACT, Tasmania and Alpine/highlands of NSW and Victoria. Also in hotter areas in central parts of Australia and the Northern Territory the temperature can exceed 40 deg for more that 5% of the year. |
For warranty claims, customers need to promptly report defects to SolarEdge. Given SolarEdge has an Australian office to assist with the warranty claim process, this appears to be a well-supported warranty offer for Australian customers.

Pros and Cons of SolarEdge Battery
Pros:
- One of the largest inverter companies in the world with good reputation for quality
- All SolarEdge products can been monitored and controlled through one portal (reducing need for multiple apps)
Cons:
- SolarEdge home batteries are only compatible with SolarEdge inverters. As a SolarEdge is a premium solution, many Australians will not already have a compatible inverter to support this battery.
- There is only 1 size battery at 9.7kWh. This offers customer much less flexibility to design the appropriate sized battery for their needs.
- The batteries lack functionality like a high environmental protection rating and fire suppression despite their higher price tag.
So, Should I Buy SolarEdge Battery?
If you have already installed SolarEdge’s inverters or other products, opting for a SolarEdge battery can be a smart choice. This integration allows you to monitor your whole solar system’s performance through just one app.
However, SolarEdge batteries are only compatible with SolarEdge inverters, and only come in one size. The functionality doesn’t quite live up to the higher price tag, so it might be worth waiting til later in the year when SolarEdge are expected to be launching a newer model with more features.

Reviews from Australians who have installed SolarEdge Batteries
The complete system works well together, and the performance has been great for us. The app is great to follow along with the power being used, backup power and grid power. I love it.

The SolarEdge battery proved its worth in the most critical of circumstances—during the 8 days we were without power after Cyclone Alfred. While the grid was down, our home remained energised, secure, and comfortable, all thanks to this incredibly reliable system. Its performance was rock solid—charging efficiently during daylight and supplying power consistently through the nights. We were able to keep essentials running, stay connected, and support our family without relying on noisy generators or scrambling for alternatives. It’s one thing to invest in solar storage for savings, but it’s another to truly experience energy independence when it matters most. This battery didn’t just perform—it delivered peace of mind when everything else was uncertain. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

It works fine when the grid is on but may not work during a prolonged grid outage of any more than 24h. The battery shuts down when it drains and if there is a software update needed will not repower the house when the sun starts shining again. It is mainly designed for short term outages of 2-3 hours, so due to recent weather events a more robust system is required.

We have had this system for a long time and if you know how much your power use is then long poweroutages can be managed. Do not expect to run an entire house on one battery :. Battery is enough for us to run the house using 40% over night and on extended outages we can last for Days with reasonable sun

It works fine when the grid is on but is not designed to work during a prolonged grid outage of any more than 24h. The battery shuts down when it drains and will not repower the house when the sun starts shining again. It is only designed for short term outages of 2-3 hours, so due to recent weather events we will have try to trade this in to buy suitable off grid hybrid system that actually works during outages of more than about 24h.

Battery quality and support are excellent. Technically, as a DC coupled battery it is quite efficient. The backup interface is not as reliable and has required several software/firmware upgrades.
Happy with this battery and its performance. The App is very easy to use and provides a lot of info
SolarEdge’s Home Battery is working like a dream. It stores energy from the sun and powers the entire house after dark for hours, well beyond peak time. Combined with the SolarEdge inverter it’s all in the one app for me too which I am so happy with being able to see the home consumption and battery statistics all in the one place

Good size and we selected it to make sure good comms with the inverter. One weakness is not being able to charge from the grid with off peak power. There is also limited functiuwithin the app compared to other battery systems (SolarX) that is have had previously.
