At a Glance: Neopower Black Diamond Scores 3 Out of 5

Scoring is based on our heat pump scorecard which is consistently applied to each brand and heat pump on the Australian market.

$ Price: The retail cost of the Neopower Black Diamond 210L model is under $2,500, placing it in the lowest price bracket on our scorecard and offering value for entry-level buyers.

  • Company Backing and Trustworthiness – 2/5: Neopower, trading under Imaca Pty Ltd, has been operating since 2010 and has a physical office in Scoresby, Victoria. While that supports its local presence and trading history, it remains a smaller and less established brand than major multinational hot water manufacturers, so it sits in the lower half of the category on the Solar Choice scorecard.
  • Warranty Offer – 3/5: Neopower’s published warranty for the Black Diamond range includes 6 years on the tank, 5 years on refrigeration components, 5 years on electrical components, and 2 years on labour. That is reasonable coverage for a lower-cost heat pump, although it is not as strong as the best warranty offers in the category.
  • Customer Reviews – 3/5: Based on verified reviews published on Solar Choice, Neopower currently holds a rating of 4.50 from 2 customer reviews. Under the Solar Choice heat pump scorecard, that is a strong result however limited number of reviews suggest it’s necessary to check third party sites to confirm user experience.
  • Functionality – 4/5: The Neopower Black Diamond includes Wi-Fi app control, an LCD interface, and multiple programmable heating schedules. The 210L model also exceeds the scorecard threshold for heating power per litre. However, while the unit is listed at 42 dBA, the published material does not clearly confirm measurement at 1 metre, so it does not receive the quiet-operation point under Solar Choice’s scoring method.

Uses R290, a low-GWP refrigerant with lower environmental impact than older refrigerants.
  • Touchscreen controls
Includes a built-in touch screen for adjusting settings and monitoring operation.
  • Wi-Fi connectivity
Supports remote control through the Smart Life app, which can help with scheduling and monitoring.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Cost-Effective
With models priced just above $2,500, the Neopower Black Diamond falls within the lowest price bracket on our scorecard, offering a high feature-to-cost ratio.
  • Smart Functionality
Includes an LCD touchscreen and WiFi app integration via the Smart Life app, allowing remote control and system monitoring.
  • Programmable Timers
Offers up to three separate time schedules for heat pump operation, allowing greater control over energy usage patterns.
  • Heating Capacity
The 210L unit delivers a heating power of 13.8W per litre, exceeding the threshold of 10W/L for strong thermal performance.
  • Climate Adaptability
Designed for operation in ambient temperatures ranging from -7°C to 43°C, suitable for varied Australian climates.
  • Environmentally Friendly Refrigerant
Uses R290 refrigerant with an ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 3, aligned with modern sustainability standards.
  • Auxiliary Heating Element
Built-in electric element can boost water temperatures up to 75°C when needed.

Cons

  • Limited User Feedback
As of early 2025, the product has a relatively short time on the market, and a limited volume of customer reviews means long-term performance is not fully established.
  • Limited Labour Warranty
Labour coverage is capped at 2 years, which is modest compared to premium systems that offer 5 years or more.
  • Unverified Noise Level Testing
Although the unit is rated at 42 dBA, the manufacturer has not specified whether this measurement was taken at 1 metre, which is the industry standard for evaluating noise performance.
  • Restricted Model Range
Current options include only 210L and 260L capacities, with a 315L model pending release. Larger or smaller households may find fewer tailored options.

Verdict: Is the Neopower Heat Pump Worth It?

The Neopower Black Diamond heat pump offers a combination of competitive pricing, strong heating performance, and modern control features such as WiFi connectivity and programmable operation. It meets key environmental benchmarks with R290 refrigerant and is suitable for a range of Australian climates.

However, there are a few trade-offs to consider. The 2-year labour warranty is shorter than what some competitors provide, and the noise level—while low—has not been verified at the standard 1-metre distance. Additionally, as a newer product with limited customer reviews, its long-term reliability is still being established.

This system may appeal most to cost-conscious buyers who prioritise smart features and efficiency over extended warranty coverage or brand longevity. For those seeking a more established track record or longer support periods, alternative options may warrant consideration.

We previously had solar with gas booster for our water heating and we seemed to be using a lot of gas and it would take a while for our water to heat up. Since changing to an electrical heat pump our water heats up a lot quicker and our energy bill is now in credit.
