Zip Solar recently installed 8.55kw JaSolar (475w x 18), FoxEss 28.8kwh battery (Eq4800 L6) and FoxEss H1-5-G2 5kw inverter. $8999 (including an unexpected $600 cabling charge) First contact was late July 25, installed 28 Jan 26. So 6 months start to finish, some of the delay being my fault but mostly due to the many changes made along the way. I've seen reviews stating last minute hidden charges so I was very careful to ask for a fixed agreed price and furnished ample information for this. Despite me sending many pictures and detailed measurements and instructions of my array location and battery location requirements, the quote changed many times as they re-examined my information. Each time the quote changed so too did the install date, pushing out 3 weeks each change. And then on installation day an extra $600 cabling charge was demanded. I hired my own electrician to replace the old meter box and he informed me I had 3 phase even though I was not using it. I informed Zip and they immediately required me to upgrade to a 3 phase system at almost $3000 more which I couldn’t afford and intended to cancel my order so we reverted to single phase. The original quote was for 18 x 440w panels but upon further evaluation Zip decided they would not fit on my roof but that 16 x 475w would fit, similar output similar price but a new quote, which pushed me back another 3 weeks on install. I had measured my roof many times and was confident 18 panels would fit so I asked them to bring 2 extra panels and if they fit I would pay extra if they didn’t no harm done. They fit, so I got an even bigger array than originally planned, my criticism here is they should have known this all along. If I can figure it out surely a team of professionals can? So my final additional bill on installation day included the 2 extra panels fitted and the extra cable which they said was $100 per meter over 5m and the total distance from inverter to meter box was 15m, which I accurately informed them of repeatedly during the quote process but it became at total of $1000, I expected to pay about $400 more for the 2 panels so let’s say they “discounted” my extra 10m cabling to $600. I believe I should only have had to pay for the extra 2 panels but it’s difficult arguing with them half way through installation. Other than that, long after I’ve forgotten about the problems along the way and a process that should have been weeks instead of months I’m extremely happy to be almost completely energy independent, at a cost the average home owner can afford. Hopefully I get 10 good years at least. Budget solar marketing companies often earn their reputations and Zip has a slightly better reputation than many others but they could have been a lot better. Having said that, overall 30/40 is still pretty good. Price: 8/10 (only let down by the additional cable charges) great value overall. Installation: 8/10, very good installation by polite workers, zero damage, thorough site clean after, all done in 1 day and all working correctly. Only let down was very little advice on app use but they did set it all up for me, nothing about system shutdown or reboot etc. Fortunately it’s not too complicated. System: 10/10 worked perfectly from hand over, exceeded expectations of generation and grid usage (nearly zero since install except deliberate but much reduced off peak ev charging). Sales team: 4/10 Despite me providing ample photos, measurements, descriptions and requirements the sales team chopped and changed systems and delayed delivery and misinformed me on systems that I could install. Eventually I got what I wanted but it was harder than it needed to be and this is the only part of the process letting them down. Having said all that, the most important part of buying solar is getting a competent installation of reliable products, Zip allows you to stipulate some brand choices including budget brands and quotes accordingly and their installation team got it right first time for me. So on that basis I’d have no issue recommending them. I can’t speculate on after sales problem solving, this is always a risk with budget marketing companies, hopefully the brands I got work for a long time and they warranty their products themselves if the installers disappear. The battery is the biggest proportion of the investment and Fox seems to be growing in popularity so hopefully this means their products are good.

PLEASE DO NOT USE ZIP SOLAR (and Matthew at Zip Solar)!!!! We purchased a solar and battery system from Zip Solar during the Black Friday Sales, when you think something is usually too good to be true, it often is, and especially with Matthew at Zip Solar. We ordered the system in November, they took a deposit, and advised that there was a waiting period, which was no problem, as they were very busy. The expected install date was early February, a little longer than we wanted, but no problem, the price was good so we were prepared to wait. February came, and they said they could not find an installer, but if we upgraded to a larger battery and solar panel package (for an additional $4K), we could get our install completed more quickly. So in early February we said ok, this is a good deal, lets go for the larger system and get the install faster. We phoned, emailed, texted Zip Solar and Matthew, they didn't answer calls or emails. When I did get through and spoke to someone, I rarely got a call back. I called them today (Mid March) to ask what was happening, and they advised they had refunded my deposit, with some lazy excuse that they could not find an installer to work on a 2 story property. Really unprofessional business, have wasted my time and efforts for over 5 months. Do not purchase from this company unless you want to pay a deposit and never get a system installed. Absolutely disgraceful. Zip Solar’s installation nearly burned my house down. After Zip Solar installed my system, their poor-quality installation caused my meter box to catch fire. This was not a minor issue — it was serious enough that Fire and Emergency had to be called to contain the fire. Let that sink in. My home was put at real risk because of their negligence. I am incredibly lucky that I still have a house. This could have ended far worse. I trusted Zip Solar to do the job safely and professionally, and they failed in the most dangerous way possible. Never use Zip Solar. No savings are worth risking your home, your safety, or your life.

Sales was good. However installers did not clean up after job completed ( Left broken tiles 0n lawn and remains of lunches on floor ) Also booked return of installers for blackout protection. They did not turn up on day and after 3 emails to Zip solar still waiting for response.

Extremely disappointed with the service and installation of our battery system. I seriously question whether the installers were properly qualified for the job. They were cutting things without being sure if they should, attempted to install in muddy conditions, and failed to bring the enclosure we were charged for. The job was supposed to take one day but dragged into two, costing us valuable work time. Now that they’ve left, we’re dealing with flashing lights and appliances turning on and off and I bet they won’t replace them if they blow up. Completely unacceptable experience — very unprofessional from start to finish.

Sales process was good with some communication issues, however these were resolved each time. Installers were excellent. They did a fabulous job in difficult wet conditions. Contacted Growatt tech support a few days after installation and received an answer within 2 hours, very happy.

Sales were great and kept in touch. Installers were terrific and very friendly. The only post support was to set up my app so I could see how many kw I was using as apposed to making.

Worst mistake ever contacting Zip Solar for solar insulation. Ordered in September 26th 2024 paid in full 22nd November 2024. Panels and inverter were finally installed 25th-26th March 2025 then received a call from Harvey (zip solar) the next day that the system has to be removed and replaced. Now 22nd April still no solar system running. Absolute disgusting service from the get go. Their policy says installed within 2 weeks. I've still waiting and it's been 7 months. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING SERVICE.

Installed Yingli/Solis 6.5Kw system on a strata townhome with an embedded network. Nightmare to get the system through the industry techno bureaucracy however the retailer wasn't at fault. the system now been in for three months and it's running faultlessly, very pleased with what we have. The Solis tracing app while somewhat difficult to install runs well and provides a wealth of detail about your system. Rather ironically because we're in the difficult embedded network we actually have a somewhat better FIT than most people in suburbia these days because our feed-in goes to the embedded network and not out to the grid.

Zip Solar used a local contractor, and in our case he did a good job. Happy with the result.
