Sigenergy EV Charger – An Independent Review by Solar Choice

If you’re setting up a home EV charger and want something smart, solar-friendly and sleek on the wall, the Sigenergy EV AC Charger might catch your eye. It’s a newcomer to the Australian market, but it’s backed by serious energy tech credentials – and it’s designed to work hand-in-glove with Sigenergy’s own battery system, the Sigenstor.

Offered in three power levels – 7kW, 11kW and 22kW – the charger packs in a fair bit of tech for the price. Think app control, solar surplus charging, dynamic load management (with add-ons), and rugged weather protection. But there are a few caveats, especially if you’re not already invested in the Sigenergy ecosystem – or if you happen to live near the coast.

• Warranty Offer: 2/5 Sigenergy’s 3-year warranty is not the worst in the market but falls short of industry leaders offering up to 5 years. The fact that it is not covered if installed within 500m of the coastline, in a country where many people live by the coast, is not a plus to say the least.
• Solar Compatibility: 3/5 The Sigenergy EV AC Charger has well-integrated solar compatibility features and offers external RS485 meter support or internal IC metering, but its Smart PV, Solar Boost and Fast Charging modes do require installation alongside the Sigenstor solar battery, preventing it from scoring full marks.
• Functionality: 3/5 The Sigenergy EV AC Charger would score higher if offered with a cable longer than 5m, but it does do well on its IP65 rating, OCPP smart charging and smartphone app control. It does not, however, have an LCD screen, and full smart functionality requires going all in on Sigenergy’s battery solutions. Overall, the Sigenergy EV AC Charger earns a respectable 3 out of 5 in this category.

Company Overview

• Sigenergy is a Chinese-based home battery and EV charger company founded in May 2022 by ex-Huawei President of Smart PV Tony Xu, who worked with the communications giant for 23 years.
• According to Sigenergy’s website, it has a global footprint encompassing more than 60 countries, with 700-plus staff. Its global HQ is located in Shanghai where it has an 8,000 square metre office, a 3,000 square meter photovoltaic power station and a 20,000 square metre manufacturing facility.
• As of February 2025, Sigenergy had achieved annual sales revenue of $USD100 million. It claims to be the largest stackable battery solution provider globally.
  
• Sigenergy’s Australian iteration arrived locally in late 2023, headed up by AU & NZ Managing Director Will Hall, who has held managerial sales positions for various solar installation companies since 2009.
• Its Australian HQ is currently located at Suite 2, Level/7 Clarence St, Sydney NSW 2040. It lists a local support number (0489 080 832), has an easily accessible product spec sheet, learning and downloads centre, for a product range that includes two energy storage systems, two inverters, a gateway, power sensor, a communications module and an AC electric vehicle charger.
• In April, Sigenergy became the number one home battery brand in Australia, pushing past Sungrow to claim 17.4% of the market according to One Step Off the Grid.

Sigenergy EV AC Charger Features

• Sigenergy has just one AC electric vehicle charger, available in 7kW, 11kW and 22kW formats. It also offers a 25kW bidirectional DC charger as part of its stackable Sigenstor battery product.
• Standout features of the Sigenergy EV AC Charger are its seamless integration with Sigenstor, and three charging modes. These include: Smart PV function which allows it to charge only using power generated from rooftop solar, Solar Boost which also uses grid energy if solar power is not sufficient, and Fast Charging mode which uses all available energy to charge the vehicle as quickly as possible.

Installation

If routed via the top of the unit, this charger must be installed in a sheltered location. As per its warranty, the charger must not be installed within 500 metres of corrosive environments, including seaside location, chemical plants and smelters or power stations.

In addition to the installation of the unit itself:

• Dynamic load management requires the Sigen Power Sensor;
• Smart charging features require installation alongside the Sigenstor battery.

Warranty and Service

• EV charger service requests can be made from within the mySigen App.

Sigenergy’s 3-year limited warranty starts on the date of installation, activation and registration, or 180 days after shipment from the factory if not registered within that 180 days.

Claims must be made within 30 days of the fault, and if the unit lacks internet connectivity, the user is liable for any missed firmware updates that could’ve resolved the issue. Repairs or replacements reset the warranty term by an extra six months or the remainder of the original term, whichever is longer.

Exclusions include:

• Installation within 500m of a coastline
• Failure to follow install or use instructions
• Use of unauthorised installers or parts
• Environmental wear, cosmetic damage or corrosion
• Force majeure (lightning, flooding, etc.)
• Travel, accommodation or staff costs unless pre-approved

Sigenergy’s liability is capped at the purchase price. All service is coordinated through the mySigen APP, and any replaced hardware becomes the property of Sigenergy.

Final Verdict: Should I buy the Sigenergy EV AC Charger?

There’s no shortage of EV chargers on the market these days, and choosing one can be a bit of a maze — especially if you’re weighing up smart features, solar integration, price, and support. The Sigenergy EV AC Charger stands out with a sleek design, robust spec sheet, and deep compatibility with the brand’s own energy ecosystem. It clearly targets households that want to go beyond basic charging and make the most of rooftop solar and energy management.

But this isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. While the charger itself is competitively priced and packed with potential, unlocking its full capabilities requires a bit more buy-in — both literally and figuratively. And as mentioned above, the lack of warranty for those living in near certain environments will be a kicker. From additional hardware requirements to installation limitations, it’s a product best suited to a particular type of buyer.

The Sigenergy EV AC Charger is best suited for:

• Solar households already using or planning to use Sigenergy’s Sigenstor battery
  
• Tech-savvy buyers who prefer app-based control and automation
  
• Homes in inland areas, due to the coastal install restriction
  
• Property owners wanting load management and PV surplus use
  

It may not be ideal for:

• Coastal properties or installations near salt air
  
• Buyers seeking plug-and-play solar compatibility without extra hardware

Overall, this is a competitively priced, highly integrated solution best suited for homes already committed to the Sigenergy ecosystem. But if you’re not already planning to use Sigenergy’s battery system, or you live near the coast, the extra hardware requirements and warranty fine print could end up being a bit of a headache.
