VPP Overview
Origin Loop is Origin Energy’s Virtual Power Plant, which offers incentives to customers to relinquish some control over their battery. The current offer is “Bring Your Own (BYO) battery”: eligible Origin retail customers with a compatible battery can join and receive credits during VPP events.

What You Get (Benefits)
- $200 sign-up credit on your electricity bill (after connection).
- $1.00 per kWh exported from your battery during Loop events (applied as bill credits). Activity is capped at 200 kWh/year.
- Feed-in tariff still applies under your Origin plan.
- No lock-in contract; you can leave with notice (see Exit Terms)
Eligibility & System Requirements
To join the BYO offer, you must:
- Be (or become) an Origin electricity customer and agree to the Loop VPP Terms.
- Have a compatible battery & inverter and an operational solar system of at least 5 kW.
- Have a smart meter and reliable broadband/Wi-Fi at the property.
- Not rely on life-support equipment at the site.
- Availability across NSW, SA, VIC, QLD and ACT
Electricity plans & rates (how Loop fits with your bill)

- You must be on an Origin electricity plan to join Loop.
- You can stay on your current Origin plan or switch to any Origin plan available at your address (single-rate, time-of-use, or demand where offered).
- Your solar feed-in tariff still applies to standard exports. During Loop events you also receive $1.00/kWh bill credits (activity capped at 200 kWh/year).

Home Battery System Requirements
To join Origin Loop VPP’s BYO offer, customers must have:
- A Sungrow, Alpha ESS, Goodwe, Eveready, Sigenergy, GivEnergy, Solax or Tesla powerwall. This list is not exhaustive, please confirm at signup
- An solar system with at least 5kW of inverter capacity
- Minimum of 5kWh battery capacity
Contract Length and Exit Terms
For the BYO offer the Origin Loop VPP is pretty straight forward. There is no lock in contract and customers can leave at any time with 20 business days notice (email: loop@origin.com.au).
Technical Operations
Origin will control the battery remotely and require the ability to control the battery. That means the battery can’t be offline (e.g. wifi or technical issues) for over ~3 days in any given month.
Origin can discharge a maximum of 200kWh from any given customer’s battery over the course of 12 months.

Users gain visibility through the Origin app’s Home Energy Monitor, where they can track energy flows, VPP engagement, and credits earned
