Australia outshines US on per-capita solar installations in 2014

A rooftop solar system was installed every 2.8 minutes in 2014 in Australia, nearly as many as the US even though it has just a fraction of the population.

According to data compiled by Green Energy Markets, a total of 816MW of rooftop solar energy was installed in 2014, most of it on household

Queensland dominated with nearly one third of installations, with  60,000 homes installing 253MW. NSW added 37,215 systems, or 170MW.

Victoria saw a third of the total installed 59,00 solar hot water systems that have been added across the country in 2014.

Western Australia was accredited one 300kW solar system at Bidvest Bibra Lake. Along with Soldiers Point Bowling Club in NSW was also accredited one of the two new “power stations” by the Clean Energy Regulator, which was a 100KW solar system.
