Solar Choice brokers 50kW ‘zero-export’ solar system for St George Hotel in Queensland

Solar Choice Commercial has managed the tender for a 50kW solar system for the St George Hotel in Saint George, Queensland. In compliance with grid-connection rules for the Ergon Energy network, the system will not export excess solar power to the grid.

The St George Hotel originally contacted Solar Choice in January of 2014 seeking quotes for 50kW systems after having been approached independently by an installer.

After explaining the extent of our services and creating a profile for the project on our Tender Management Platform via email, Solar Choice received an response from the hotel’s owner expressing interest in learning more. He soon thereafter decided to engage Solar Choice as tender manager for the project.

By the end of April 2014, the client had narrowed down his choices to two installers. At that point, he requested firm business case documentation and final proposals from each of them, which he discussed separately with Solar Choice, seeking advice about his final decision.

By the end of May 2014 he reached a decision to proceed with a 50kw system using 200x 250w Trina panels, 2x SMA STP 17000TL inverters and 1x SMA STP 15000TL inverter.

After overcoming challenges related to designing the arrays to fit the roof while maximising system output,  the project came online in January 2015. The client reports that he is very pleased with the outcome.
