The previous owner of our apartment had a special deal from Carrier 20-25 years ago. If he installed two he could get a third free, so he did. We have now replaced the two bedroom units with Daikin over the last 5 years. The first thing I noticed was how quiet they were. No more was there any switching noise outside, as the old Carrier units switched on and off, annoying our closest neighbour. Secondly, the temperature setting is every half a degree (C), not every one degree like the Carrier units. Thirdly, there were a lot more options (for timers etc, that we do not actually use. Fourthly, just recently I measured the standby power draw, and found that the remaining Carrier unit in our lounge room does draw significant power (several times as much as the Daikin units in the bedrooms), and added a significant cost to having the air-conditioner. We now switch them all off at the wall unless we want to use them. The internal supporting stucture of the Carrier unit is corroding, and will not last much longer. When it fails eventually, we will replace it with a suitable Daikin unit. TC Air and Electric service all three air-conditioners annually, and also have offered the valuable advice that they should be run for a few minutes every month, to keep everthing in good condition.
